American Idol Top 24

Ok, so how do you feel after you have seen the Top 24, heard them perform and listened to what the judges have to say? Let me break it down for you:

Now, someone who I was NOT a fan of but I liked her song on Tuesday: Didi Benami Everyone else can come or go.......

BOYS: Love love love: Andrew Garcia and Casey James Super liked what Toddrick Hall did but alas, no love from the judges. As far as the rest of the guys: there needs to be some major stepping up to the plate here. Michael Lynche I adore you but you need to step up your game. Alex Lambert DUDE ditch the mullet and get some better clothes and then we'll talk! And Tyler Grady pick a better song!

We do not need a repeat performance of last year where the wrong person won the competition. Seriously. Kris Allen only go through thanks to the tweeny boppers of America and their mad texting skills, when they should be doing homework or in bed, I'm just saying!

I didn't vote on purpose last night. I want to wait another week or two. I know, I know, I know I should not complain if I am not voting but I am interested to see where this will go.

Divorce Sucks

Some days I allow it to get to me more than others, especially when HEE HAW is acting in his usual selfish ways. Later, after I have had a cheance to reflect on what happened I always wonder:

1. Why do I let myself get sucked in to his drama?
2. Why do I always try to take SOME responsibility for the situation even though I know it is not my fault?
3. Will I ever learn to walk away from the insults?

Well guess what? Thanks to the discussion CHB and I had last night I had a moment of clarity. You want to play hard ball HEE HAW? You want to live up to your name and be a complete and utter JACK ASS? Great! Bring it on because as of today, the war is on. You will not win and you will not walk all over me EVER again. Mark. My. Words.

Outdoor 2 Weekend

Well, CHB and I made it. We bitched and moaned through the entire 27 hours that we have been avoiding for 4 years and now we are DONE!

Friday night I was in bed by 10:00 pm (early for me) so that I would feel refreshed when I awoke at 6:15am. I had to be to CHB's house by 8:00am so we could be at camp by 9:30am.

It was COLD outside. And we were going to be out of doors for so long I think I packed every single peice of fleece clothing I own. Plus, 3 hats, 1 pair of gloves, 2 scarves and 8 pairs of wool socks. Not to mention 4 blankets on top of my sleeping bag.

Here was our cabin, thanks to a donation from Norstrom's:
Doesn't it look warm????
So, CHB and I took one look at this, a mere 15 minutes after arriving at camp and said to each other: If this is the bathroom we have to use, we are going home! It ended up there was some kind of plumbing problem and we got to use the bathrooms in the heated ranch house. These were on the agenda to fix......... eeeeewwwwww.

There were not EVER going to be enough of these to keep CHB and I warm. Here we are bundling up:

Watch out ladies: she has an ax and she is not afraid to use it!

Sunday morning rolled around. I slept pretty well except the mats did not have enough padding. The warmest I was the ENTIRE time was in my bed. All I wanted to do was go home. Here I am riding my broom after sweeping out the cook shelter:

All in all, I learned a thing or two but not anything I couldn't have learned in a heated room without sleeping outside. I am just super thankful it is over and CHB and I can take our girls camping without another troop along and we can have our OWN fire circle.

How old are you?

I was shopping for some wool socks the other night at Fred Meyers. It was about 8:15 pm on a Wednesday night in Mtown. (We will talk more about the wool socks later.) I walk through the apparel department and I notice the 60% off clearance section. Now I LOVE LOVE LOVE me some clearance. I can NOT pass it up. No matter what store, or how little time I have, you can put your money on the fact that I will peruse the red tag items.

I stopped to look at the tops in the Junior's/Misses section. I, being of short stature, find that the length of these clothes, especially in the torso and sleeves, fit better than the clothes in the Woman's department, with the exception of petite's. ANYWAY, here I am. Looking at the tops and I turn around to look at the rack behind me, and I stop dead in my tracks. There is a woman, 45-50 years old across from me. She is wearing a peach colored silk trench coat, black leggings, knee high boots and her hair is pulled back in a no nonsense bun. She has on tasteful jewelry, accessories and makeup. BUT here is what I was thinking when I first saw her. A: Why on earth are you wearing that jacket out of the house and what possessed you to buy it in the first place? B: Even though you have amazing legs, that I secretly was jealous of, you are too old to wear leggings. C: Am I too old to be shopping in the Junior's/Misses department if YOU are here too?

I do NOT want to be that woman. You all know exactly who I am talking about. You have all been warned that if you see me behaving in this manner, please reign me in. I consider it your personal mission to make sure I do not become one of them.

So, back to the wool socks: this weekend CHB and I have to spend all day Saturday, overnight and in to Sunday at Girl Scout Camp to take a training class. While this is all fine and dandy, we will be sleeping in an open-end shelter and the temperature at night should be hovering around freezing. Ask me why I do this. Go ahead, I dare you. Oh wait, I need to come up with an answer to that huh? Well, I will update you when we get back. Let me just say that I plan to pack every blanket and sweatshirt I own.

American Idol Hollywood Week #2

Recap time: I was ONCE AGAIN dissapointed with several choices on the American Idol front last night. I feel this way every year, and I know you have heard it before but they REALLY got it wrong this year. Here is your top 24 America.........

Here is who I like for the boys: Andrew Garcia, Tyler Grady, Michael Lynche, Aaron Kelly, Toddrick Hall, Casey James  and Jermaine Sellers.

Here is who I like for the girls: Crystal Bowersox, Lilly Scott, Siobhan Magnus, Lacey Brown and Katie Stevens.

Now here is what really chaps my hide. They sent people like Angela Martin and Thaddeus Johnson home and kept people like Janell Wheeler and Lee Dewyze. Lee needs an extra seat next to him for his ego. Janell was inconsistent during auditions and yet she got in over Angela? I always feel like they pick the people who are good looking or they think they can market and that's who goes through. Look at how well that has worked out for Kris Allen. No thanks.

Too early to call a winner but keep your ears open as it will come soon.

V-Day Weekend

Busy, busy, busy! Lots of running around this weekend: free swim at the pool, girl scout cookie pick up at the school (where we unload a semi truck FULL of cookies, remove from pallet and stack against the wall and then restack per troop based upon what they ordered).

Saturday we had our first hood dinner of 2010. Miss Em hosted and we had Mexican food.
Miss Em made this awesome corn salad. I have become a recent avocado fan and it was delicious!
CHB made this latered Jell-o dessert for the kids. It was really good.
CHB also made Stella's chocolate cake. It's all gone now.........
Of course there were a lot of these made as well. Good times in the hood!!!

The kids and I camped out at CHB's house overnight on Saturday and woke up on V-Day and made the kids french toast and bacon for breakfast. Then it was off to do the laundry and get the house ready for dinner because we had Grandma Betty coming!!! The girls helped me make Parmesan Chicken with green salad and rolls. Grandma brought with her an awesome Jello-O salad.
Chicken and all the YUMMY ingredients that go in to this awesome recipe!

Look at these adorable helpers!!!
PIA and Lil C helped set the table and get the drinks out.
After we stuffed our faces, and had some "rest" time, we brought on the desserts!!! Grandma brought her Scotcher-oos, and let me tell you that is like a party in your mouth!

Seriuosly, this picture does no justice to the wonderfulness of this tasty treat! For my contribution, I made cake pops from Bakerella
Not as fancy hers but I got it done!

I had such a great time with the kids and Grandma. Seriously would consider doing it again!

The New Me

Well, I FINALLY cut my hair and I feel like I lost 20 pounds!!! I think it was 4 or 5 inches, not 100% sure but close enough. I am so happy with it! Nick does an awesome job on my hair!

Valentine's Day 2010

As the "love" holiday approaches, I find that I have some mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, I am happy to not be worried about what to get my other half, and on the other hand I am feeling free from all of the drama that comes with it!

Weird to feel that 50/50 mix after all this time, but I think it is because last year, only a few short days after this VERY holiday is when my life turned upside down. It has been a long road to get where I am today. I can honestly say I am a much happier person and I feel quite a bit free-er than I ever did, and I am looking forward to what is in store for me.

I am hosting a kid dinner on Sunday and it should be good times! CHB and hubby are going out to dinner so I will have PIA, HOW, Doodle and Lil C, along with Grandma Betty for Parmesan Chicken Dinner. We are busy all weekend so this will be a nice wind down to our Sunday.

Happy Valentine's Day to you all!

American Idol Hollywood Week #1

Of course I watched A.I. last night! And Tuesday night as well. I love me some Idol time. I went to my friend Heather's house. It was so great to catch up with her: she just got married in December, so we looked at wedding photos. She made a beautiful bride!

Here is what always amazes me about Hollywood week: the drama! Seriously, these people are crazy! And there is always the group who can not get it together, no matter how hard they try. It is like a train wreck, you can not take your eyes away, you just keep watching.

Now, I am not so good with the names of all the people yet, but I fel dissapointed with a couple people they sent home. Once of my favorites was the dad who has the autistic son. He was in a group with 4 guys and they kept that Tom kid. NOT a fan of him. Hopefully he will be cut before the final 24.

I guess next week we will see the rest of the groups perform and then it will come down to Wednesday's show of who makes the final cut. This is always a nail biter for me. I know they choose some people becuase they are good for ratings, and other people because of their natural talent but the process always frustrates me. You know that the tweeny boppers of America, and me, will watch this show regardless of who you pick. Now, that being said: there was talk this week of Howard Stern being approached as a possible replacement for Simon in the coming year. Here is what I have to say about that: a hell to the no! That man drives me crazy and I would absolutely boycott A.I. if he was on it!

Ok, I am off my soap box now. Did you see any people during Hollywood week that are your favorites????

Busy, Busy, Busy

Yep, that is the name of the game around here! This was my weekend:

Friday night: quality wine time with the ladies! Which of course lead to some great extra cirricular activities. For example: all the ladies grab a couple rolls of toilet paper and go tee pee ex's work van. Then, run along to another neighbors house and tee pee his car as well. Now we decide we have not had enough fun, grab the only sober driver, a couple more rolls of tee pee and go to the Corn Hustler's house, tag her front porch. Move on to Jgurl's pad and do her front yard and car! Come back to Miss Em's house after all this fun, only to be "caught" by ex for tagging his work van as he came home. Then, because you think you are so funny, blow up some balloons, grab the teepee and head back out to tag his personal truck and fill the truck bed with balloons. When the front porch lights flash off and on at you, and all of us ladies dissolve in to giggles that we have been caught, you know it was a great day!

Saturday morning: After you have not gotten in to bed until 2:30 am, up at 7:15. Not a good choice......

8:30 am Go grab some coffee and try to hook up an i.v. of it to your arm
8:45 am Get Doodle off to the free Home Depot project(they made a wood nascar shelf) with CHB's hubby
9:45 am Meet at the senior center so we can make Valentine's Day cards for all the residents
11:30 am Doodle changes in to her basketball uniform and CHB, PIA and HOW all head out to the game
1:15 pm Game over, not a win but a great effort, we head back towards home with a stop to get something to eat and to pick up the corsage for the Father/Daughter Dance
2:30 pm Freshly showered, Doodle awaits Miss Carrie to come and do her hair
4:15 pm Rush over to ex's house so Doodle can put her dress on, then the paparazzi can do their thing
4: 45 pm shove the dads and daughters out to the dance
5:00 run some errands and then go pick up Lil C for dinner
8:30 pm home and lounging

Here are some of the photos from the dance:

Every year this group of girls and their dads go to the dance together!

Last year we got a similar picture so they decided to try it again!
Beautiful Corsage!

Sunday: go to CHB's house so that her hubby can fix my car! Thank goodness he knows what he is doing! I save a small fortune every year and I am very grateful! He fixed my brakes while CHB and I headed off to the craft store for a few hours.

Young at Heart

Tuesday CHB and I made a trip to the Blockbuster to search out this documentary. (Well, CHB also needed to hunt down her Season 5 disc 4 and 5 of LOST. You should have seen the people in Blockbuster at 9:30 at night. W.O.W.) Thanks to ChaCha and her post, I knew I had to see it.

So we sat down to watch it last night. It was wonderful! It made me laugh, it made me tear up, and it made me strive to stay Young at Heart myself. I felt like I had just inherited about 12 new grandparents, and I found myself wanting to be friends with Lenny for sure. Do NOT confuse this with wanting to be a passenger in his little car!

Knowing that they are all over the age of 74, and that we are only here on this earth for a short period of time makes this story more poignant. I looked at CHB when it was all over and I said to her: "I hope to be like that when I am that age".

I know that CHB and I will be close to each other, if not in the same nursing home when we are older. We will have walker races down the hall, teepee each other's houses, and take Craigslist roadtrips until we can't get out of our chairs anymore. I know we will have as much fun as we possibly can and make the best of our time. But the point of this film, in my humble opinion, is to remind us all that you only live once. Take each day to do what you want to do and not put anything off until tomorrow. Because your hair isn't done, or you are wearing your sweats, or you want to loose 20 pounds first, or you are worried about what other people will think.

So, to Stephen Walker and Sally George who produced this film, thank you. It was a great lesson to us all. Go out and see it.

American Idol Review

Last night, the producers of American Idol finally gave us the show we all wanted to see. A recap of all the people who had made it through during the auditions, so that by the time Hollywood week rolls around we actually know who these people are. I know there were cries of delight from CHB and I, and I am sure across the world!

As Hollywood week approaches, I get more and more excited. Who will make it this year? Will I be dissapointed like last year and every other year with the top 24? It always seems like there are a few let go that have the greatest potential. AND the people they kept instead never make it out of the top 8. Coincidence? It's hard to say, but when you have the judges making these decisions, and they are supposed to be the ones with the knowledge, it is an interesting phenomenon.

Like I have said before, I am SUPER excited to see Ellen on idol. I still miss Paula Abdul. Kara is a little less annoying the last few episodes but it remains to be seen how she will get on my nerves as the show progresses.

Thanks to CHB's husband who got this cd to me last night. I love this song!!!

I’m gonna take that mountain

I was born a stubborn soul
Ain’t afraid of the great unknown
Or a winding road that’s all uphill
This is just a stumbling block
Intimidating wall of rock
If you think this broken heart will break my will

I’m gonna take that mountain
Ain’t nothing gonna slow me down
And there ain’t no way around it
Gonna leave it level with the ground
Ain’t just gonna cross it, climb it, fight it
I’m gonna take that mountain

It’s overwhelming looking up
I know when it’s the challenge of -
Me against this heartache to survive
I may slip and I may fall
But even if I have to crawl
I’ll break through to the healing side

I’m gonna take that mountain
Ain’t nothing gonna slow me down
And there ain’t no way around it
Gonna leave it level with the ground
Ain’t just gonna cross it, climb it, fight it
I’m gonna take that mountain

Ain’t just gonna cross it, climb it, fight it

I’m gonna take that mountain
Ain’t nothing gonna slow me down
And there ain’t no way around it
Gonna leave it level with the ground
Ain’t just gonna cross it, climb it, fight it
I’m gonna take that mountain

I was born a stubborn soul
This is a stumbling block
I’m gonna take that mountain

Why I love my friends

I knew it was going to happen. In fact, as the children and I made our way home from a visit with the grandparents, I told them that if we got home and there was no evidence of it I would think something was wrong with my friends.

Well, I was not dissapointed! Across my front door was a "happy birthday" banner. We manage to get it off, our arms loaded with stuff, and crack open the front door, and I started to laugh right away!

I now have a "bed companion" courtesy of Miss Em and Stands with Wood! Isn't it awesome? And you have to love my skivvies hanging from the chandelier!

I did not get any shots of the entry or the kitchen, where every drawer and cupboard was open, but you get the idea! I love that my patio are was "knifed" by the Crimefighter!

Here are the balloons that I could not reach all the way up at the ceiling! Not to mention ALL the ones in the bathtub! The kids had a great time popping all of them last night!

Think this is a hint to get some photos in my frame?

Well, after all was said and done, here is what I was left with!

I just want to say I felt very loved! I have the best group of friends a girl could ask for!

P.S. Lil C went and picked up all the knives for me. When he came inside, he said "55 knives later"!
P.P.S. All the regular balloons fell this morning EXCEPT the Happy Birthday one! Wonder how long will it stay in the rafters!
