PB Update 04/27/12

Well folks? Here is the latest and greatest with PB.

We have made several trips to the SCCA (Seattle Cancer Care Alliance). We trek all the way down there, roughly 37 miles from home. Shouldn't take too long right? Well, I wish that were the case. Seattle traffic is horrible. Takes us about an hour each way.

So, we go down there. Check in. They draw blood. We sit. And we wait. And we wait some more.

We go up a few floors to PB's doctors office. We wait some more. We finally get called back to his office. We review the blood draw analysis.

To be told? Not yet. Still need to wait. Liver enzyme levels still too high. We head home. And we rinse and repeat the following week.

Well? Yesterday PB went to SCCA. Check in, blood draw, wait for an hour, see the doctor, blah blah blah.

And guess what???? We are back in business folks! Liver enzyme levels are back to NORMAL range, and he is back on the study drug!

But want to hear the even better news? While PB has been waiting over the last month to get back on? The doctor has a scan done. And...........

THE DRUG IS WORKING!!!!! The cancerous cells are shrinking! Happy happy dance! It has been great over the last 2 months to see an upswing in energy from PB, an increased appetite and just wanting to be more active in general.

This was the first time I was able to meet PB's main doctor, and I really like the man. Plus, he "handles" PB very well! He is knowledgeable, has a nice bedside manner and truly cares about his patients. He has been checking in with PB via phone this past month while he has been off the drug. Above and beyond the call of duty.

So, thank you, my loyal readers. For your well wishes, sweet thoughts and all that finger crossing!

Easter 2012: Picture time

I try, as always, to get some photos from each "event" we go to.

I am usually pretty successful.

Lately, I am not sure what the deal is.

Trying to get PB and Big C to look at the camera, and smile at the SAME time is damn near impossible. This was the best I could do Easter Sunday.

Doodle stole my camera after dinner and snapped a few photos. Here was Lil C immersed in a game on his phone.

  I was caught looking too.....

Look at the concentration on his face!

Doodle got this picture of the bouquet we brought to PB's mom. Looks like I have a budding photographer on my hands!

Here are my cuties! The sun made an appearance in WA. Since we haven't seen it in a few months, we all basked in the Vitamin D rays beaming down on us.

 My sweet son and I

 Doodle and I

Love the look on her face here!

We had a great, relaxed and enjoyable Easter Sunday!

Easter 2012: Just the food

Remember the braided bread ring from a few years ago? HERE is your refresher......

Well, this year, CHB did some research online and found that the cook time was cut in half for most people and the bread turned out delicious! So, of course, being the glutton for punishment I am, I decided to try this bread making thing again. The day before Easter, I frantically start working on all of my baked goods. Here she is in all her glory:

The bread was soft, the flavor was wonderful! We didn't eat the eggs though.

I also saw these marshmallow kabobs and knew I had to make them! The idea was from "Toys in the Dryer". Want to make them? Instructions HERE. (gotta give credit where credit is due!)

Marshmallows, food coloring, kabob sticks

Cute little dishes of colored sugar.... isn't that just visually appealing?

Doodle did the dipping honors, while I shoved the completed ones on the kabob sticks.

Yum! Sugar on a stick! I then bagged each one in cute little Easter bags for all the kids.

Cute sugar bouquet!

I also made cheesecake cupcakes. Vanilla wafer crust, cheesecake filling, topped with green coconut and Jelly Belly jelly beans.

We ate a wonderful diner at PB's mom's house. Ham, green beans, scalloped potatoes, peas salad, and lots of other goodies. It was a nice and relaxing day!

PB Update

Follow up on THIS POST from February:

Pb was admitted to the trials for the study drug! Major happy dance was happening when we found that out.

So, now that he is on the "program" he has to take a little pink pill twice a day, roughly 12 hours apart. We, and by that I mean me (lol) have been very diligent on this.

I set a reminder to go off on my phone every night to make sure he takes his pill. Every morning before I leave for work I make sure he takes his pill. Cause that's how I roll.

Every 2 weeks he has gone in for blood draw and urine analysis. The doctors who are administering the study drug want to be sure each patients body is responding well to the oral chemo. As well as to check to make sure no other health problems are popping up along the way.

Last week PB went in for the regular tests. They just called this morning. There is an issue. Great. (a little heavy on the sarcasm here.) The doctors tell him no meds until he comes in on Wednesday. As a precaution.

I refuse to think of this as a setback. I can only think positively until I know there is something to freak out about.

So, send all your good vibrations this way will ya? Cause PB needs it.

Lordy, Lordy, Look who's 40!

This handsome, adorable, spunky, hunk-a hunk-a burnin love I call my man has joined the "Over the Hill" crowd! I love this picture! He rarely smiles genuinely for the camera. So, I had to be patient and bide my time, but was rewarded with a 1000 watt smile!

We had a very busy day planned for him. We started out with a family party at PB's mom and dad's house.

I arrived about 30 minutes before PB and Big C (PB's son). Balloons, plates, napkins, cups, banners, candles, funky glasses and buttons. Yeah baby!

PB and his cake. It says "Older than Dirt"......... hahaha! PB's mom picked it out.

PB and Big C. Finally a picture with them both smiling, AND looking at the camera at the same time!

So, this happens every time someone tries to get a picture of PB and I. One of us is talking, looking the wrong way, eyes are closed, you name it.

A couple of tries later...........

Here we are! At a dueling piano bar called Chopstix. Super fun! Check it out, and see if there is one close to you. Two singers who play together, play solo, and invite the audience to request songs. They will celebrate your birthday, anniversary, wedding, retirement right along with you!

We has reserved a big table ahead of time and arrived with enough time to do presents and dinner before the show started.

This picture our friend was able to capture with her cell phone. I like it a lot!

Here comes the cake! With 40 candles....... well almost!

Blew them all out at once!

Cake got all cut up and passed out. We were having a little bit of fun at the table.... can you tell?

Obviously by the look on PB's face he was less than impressed. But, he was a good sport about it!

PB, his brother Shawn and his friend Preacher.

I had purchased some fun glasses from the party store, so of course i made everyone put some on and I took their pictures.
After Chopstix, we headed to the casino to finish the night out. Didn't win, but had fun. All in all a great birthday. PB enjoyed himself, and that's all that matters!

Happy, Happy Birthday PB!
