Updates from Banjo

What has NOT been happening here? I know you all been on pins and needles awaiting the latest updates on my life....... well here goes:

I have taken a temporary Census job and I am super excited about it! I get to be an Enumerator: which means going out to people's homes that did not fill out the Census form mailed to them and ask them questions. I took an oath of office and everything! I felt this wave of patriotism as I took my oath..... I can't even describe it.

Doodle and Lil C start soccer games this week. There is a game every day Monday through Thursday. Seriously. I am excited to see them play; it is just a lot at once. Lil C is very jazzed to be playing soccer instead of baseball this year and I am excited because he is. It has been about 4 years since he played soccer and he picked it right back up again.

The kids and I went to PIA's flag football game over the weekend and I have to say: LOVE LOVE LOVE to watch PIA play! She is the only girl on her team and she means business!

Look at these cute kids:

I just have to say, love love love this song! Heard it for the first time over the past weekend and laughed so hard I thought I might pee my pants!

So take a listen, and you can thank me later!

Is where it's at! For the first time in a long time, I feel happy. Wait, I should clarify that statement. I THOUGHT I was happy before my divorce: WRONG.

I thought I was happy for so long that I actually had NO CLUE what it meant to be happy.

I was just plugging along, with no insight to the fact that I lost more and more of myself every day as the joy was sucked out of my life.

Well, no more. I am perfectly content with who I am, what I stand for and where I am going. Watch out world, because here I come!

I am going to share my joy with you whether you like it or not. It's like diarrhea of the mouth and soul! Can you handle it?

I have reached Expert Status

Or so I tell myself! This past weekend was busy with all kinds of Girl Scout activities!

Saturday: CHB and I headed about 30 miles north of Mtown to our last leader training. Outdoor 3 was the very LAST thing we needed to complete in order to take our troop camping without any other adults or in a local event. This is what we have been most excited about!

So we get there and the training class is only 4 people. We look at each other and both think, "Great. This is gonna suck". Much to our surprise, it didn't! We learned how to tie some more knots, CHB's favorite thing to do! We also learned how to make and bake with a box oven, learned charcoal cooking and some other helpful hints when taking the girls camping.

Now CHB and I and our families have been camping together for years. We know what to do, when to do it and how long to do it for. HOWEVER, when it comes to camping the Girl Scout way, we want to be able to teach our girls the old traditions, and the new ones, and make sure they have a solid foundation in their scouting experiences.

I have to say, I was so excited to cook in the box oven. We got to make one AND take it home! Can't wait to try it out on our camping trip in June!

Sunday: CHB and I loaded the girls up and headed out to the local camp for Skilletes training. This was to be a skill workshop for the girls to get them ready to camp outside and participate in outdoor challenge weekends. They learned how to: tie the square knot, clove hitch, taut line and bowline knot. They learned beginning lashing and knife safety. They learned about Leave No Trace as well as basic First Aid and fire building/tending.

The girls had a great experience and so did I. Looking forward to seeing what these girls can do!

Easter Weekend

What a weekend! Spent Friday with my Girl Scout troop at the senior center where they helped organize and execute a senior egg hunt! It was awesome and the girls had a great time!

Saturday was errand central and prep for brunch on Sunday. CHB in one of her more harebrained schemes told me I needed to make this bread for brunch:

So of course I said I was game........ BIG mistake! I like to make bread in the bread machine, not by hand, or so I confirmed Saturday!

Here are the dyed eggs to go in the bread ring (courtesy of CHB)

Here was the bread rising........ which takes forever by the way. Oh, what's that you say? You need to have patience? Hmmmmm

Here is the bread, all kneaded, braided and ready for the oven:

At 12:05 am the bread went in the oven. Sleep is overated right? The house smelled wonderful and at 12:53 am I pulled it out. Then I collapsed in to bed and Easter morning woke up early. Why I ask you? I was up before the kids......... went to check the bread and guess what? HARD as a rock! Are you freakin kidding me????? I was cursing CHB a blue streak by then.

The kids woke up and found what the Easter Bunny had left them:

Here is the sweet note left for the Eater Bunny, written by Doodle:

Everyone was dressed and headed out to CHB's parents house for brunch. I picked up PIA and HOW as CHB and hubby were sick, so they did not go. So sad.......
When we got the Lil C helped Dave with the grilling of the asparagus:

The men hid the eggs and we released the latch on the door and let them run! It was so great...... here are some of the best pics!

And, drum roll please.............. here is the @#&%! braided bread ring:

Grandma Betty's idea was to schlack it and use it as a center piece for next year!

Where have I been?

Well I wish I could say I was on vacation, in some tropical location with a frosted glass of something yummy enjoying the view from poolside but alas, I have been in town the whole time. Here is what I have been up to:

Friday night: Make 60 cake pops with CHB for HOW's pool party for her birthday (kid friendly)

Saturday morning: At the senior center with my troop in preparation for their egg hunt

Saturday afternoon: car wash, craft store and home
Saturday night: I was at the Leanne Womack/Reba McEntire/George Strait Concert!!!! It totally rocked! I was most excited to see:

I have never seen her in concert, and man does she put on a good show!!! I was screaming for more when she was done! I went with:

Sunday morning: After collecting my children from CHB, off to the laundry mat, gift wrap and chores
Sunday afternoon: CHB's little one (HOW) was turning 7 and hubby's birthday party, all the fam were invited including me and my chitlins. After all CHB and I might as well be family! Here are the birthday peeps:

Isn't she cute?

And this name fits him well, although it is said with love........

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday back at work and all that jazz.

Ready for the weekend, that is for sure. Have a neighborhood scavenger hunt (I think this is the 3rd or 4th year) and Easter Egg Hunt (going on our 7th year?). This year we are changing it up a little and I am excited to see how it plays out. Hope you all have a great holiday. Peace out!
