September 2013 Week One

As if all the crafting we got in for Labor Day weekend wasn't enough, I added a few more things to the last free weekend before school started.

First stop? Saturday morning walk along the waterfront with JGurl.

With a dual purpose! We got our 3.1 mile walk in so we could enjoy the local farmers market guilt free!

Look at all the people out enjoying a the first sunny Saturday morning of September.

Yummy and colorful veggies.......

I got lots of goodies.......... including what you see above. Dips, seasoning mixes, Apple Chipotle mustard, yum yum yum!

We also went to the Value Village in search of jeans for Doodle. Everything was 50% off Labor day. She tried on about 24 pairs of jeans.......... 3 fit just right.

Check out the stellar necklace she got as well! Total after tax? $18

Want to know what else was $18???? ALL of these school supplies at the Fred Meyer and Rite Aid combined!
6 Composition notebooks
5 Spiral Bound notebooks
2 Reams of lined paper
5 Pocket report folders
1 pack of dividers
Mini Staples
1 pack EACH mechanical pencils and regular pencils
1 Pack highlighters
1 package of index cards
1 2inch binder

Wot woot! Can I hunt out a bargain or what?

I had the Tuesday after the holiday off, and I took a little time for myself. Went and got a pedicure with Jgurl. Then, picked up Doodle. We had to complete this process.........

So, Saturday night, we dyed her hair back to the original color. She was definitely tired of those blonde highlights she had begged for just months before.....

So, Tuesday we took her down and got her hair cut. She couldn't stand to grow it out anymore!

Great Sign!

She is in the chair....... look at all that hair!

And the after! Isn't she adorable?

That night, being the night before school started, CHB, Moxie and I had a few cocktails to toast the kids going back to school, and the end of a great summer!

Here is what I came up with to mark the occasion:

Twas the night before school
and all through the house,
not a child was stirring,
Not even a mouse.

The children were tucked,
in their beds so snug,
while the parents were drinking, ...
and cutting a rug!

Back to school,
back to school,
they shouted with glee!
As the time was near
for the children to flee.

To the bus, to their desks,
To the classrooms they go,
as the parents all shout,
Off to school you go!!!!

The summertime bickering,
Fights escalating so fast,
“I’m bored, there’s nothing to do”
All a thing of the past!

Settled in their classrooms,
Busy as little bees,
The parents rush home,
For MTV and Martini’s!

What is the sound,
That across town you hear?
Parents far and wide,
Releasing a cheer!

Tuesday morning dawns cold and foggy, and the kids are required as usual to stand outside to get the "First day of School" photo.

I told them to pose like they were really upset. Lil C had NO problem with that! Doodle on the other hand was excited for her first day of HIGH SCHOOL!

Aren't they the cutest?

I drove Doodle to school on the first day. On the way, we got caught in a parent/teacher/schoolbus traffic jam, so we did what any other person would do.

Chinese Fire Drill! Happy First Day of School!

128 days to go........

As you know, the end of January I was a single woman.

In March, I started to dip my toe in to the dating pool again. So soon you say? Well, that ought to tell you how over the relationship with PB I was, before I even recognized it.

After some hairy dates, rough phone conversations, and one crazy ass mother fucker, I was ready to give up. Seriously.

I had talked with my friends about it. I thought maybe it was time to take a break. Try something different.

And then HE popped up.

He sent me a message on a Wednesday. I chose to ignore it for almost 2 days. Truth be told, since the message came from the very place I was wanting to distance myself from, I was a little scared. (Read this as: No longer accepting bat shit crazy in my life.)

I waited until Friday to even READ the message. When I was done reading the message, I thought to myself, maybe? He doesn't sound crazy, he can spell and use punctuation correctly, and he had obviously taken the time to read what I wrote on my profile.

So far, he was in the "plus" column. So, I decide to respond.

GREAT decision on my part.

Pretty much from the get go, its been non stop chatter between us.

And I was leery. But he won me over B.I.G. time. Which is a huge feat. Because I wasn't expecting much.

My Music Man

It has been a whirlwind romance. And it has been awesome!!!

 UNTIL,

he got laid off from his job. The poor guy. He looked high and low in the area for a job. Then he expanded his search to the United States. No such luck.

So what did he find? A job working as a civilian for the military. Know what that means? This job takes him out of country. For a YEAR.

So, knowing this date was looming on the horizon, we spent the entire month of July and the first couple of days of August together.

Kerry Park, Seattle

Lower Pike Place Market, Seattle

It was a lot of fun, although bittersweet.

Knowing that he may only be able to visit home ONCE during the YEAR he was to be gone. UGH.

It has been hard to acclimate to being alone again. Especially since we spent almost every waking moment of the last 5 weeks together before he left.

I miss him. Terribly.

BUT.....

He is coming home in 128 days! So, we count down until then. Every day is one day closer to seeing him. Thank goodness for Facebook, email and iMessaging.

I cant wait to see his baby blues in person. Until then, I have pictures to remind me.

2013 Labor Day Weekend Crafting

Like most other projects I see on Pinterest, most of them take a while to get around to. This particular project I have been wanting to do for OVER A YEAR...

So, Labor Day weekend Doodle and I finally tackled it!

Its so simple, you can direct a young lady how to do it, from the couch. While hung over. And trying not to puke. Hey, don't judge.

Take a LARGE oatmeal canister.
Clean it out.

Gather your supplies:
Elmer's glue
Small foam brush
Scrapbook paper
Paper trimmer

Aileen's Tacky Glue
Ribbons or embellishments of your choice

Follow these simple isntructions:

Measure the oatmeal canister
Cut paper according to size
Glue paper on to oatmeal canister
Once dry, apply a layer a glue OVER the paper

Once dry, take whatever embellishments you want (Doodle chose ribbon) and apply to top of canister.

Here is where the Aileen's tacky glue comes in. We put the tacky glue on the back of the brown polka dot ribbon and adhered it to the canister.

Then, Doodle chose the other ribbon she anted, all cut to the same size, and we tied it in a knot at the front of the canister.

Viola!
You are done! Add headbands around the canister.
Then, put all your bobby pins, rubber bands, small barrette's and clips inside.

Makes for a great counter top or dresser top hair pretty storage!

Doodle and her friends, Miz Thang and PIA, also came over for a crafting session to decorate their composition books. Each needed at least 4 for the start of high school this year.

They wanted to decorate the cover of these books with paper.

So, I let them rummage through the scrap paper bucket first, then my regular scrap paper to see what they might want to use.

They all chose solid papers. I set them up with glue sticks, paper and paper trimmer, at the kitchen table, and walked away.

An hour or so later, these were Doodle's designs:

They had a great time making the books covers! Hope they last the whole year!

August '13 in review

It was a VERY busy August, for sure.

Here is how the month looked for me via pictures, and most of them are cell phone pics:

Doodle, PIA, myself, and host of other GREAT people participated in the Foam 5k. Here is our team name, and Doodle's t-shirt:

Foam 5k also included crawling through the mud:

And at last, we got to the foam!

However THIS was required to cover the boo-boo on my elbow. Thank you MM for hooking me up with an awesome pirate band aid!

Later that same day, I attended a wedding about an hour and a half from my house. Am I a glutton for punishment or what?

The following weekend was a whirlwind for sure:
First up? Picking blackberries with Jgurl and Moxie

After filling a few containers worth, I froze most of them so I could make blackberry jam, however I did save a few for Dixie Dot's Baked Oatmeal recipe.

Which is the bomb.com, just sayin!

That VERY same night, I drafted Jgurl in to fixing my hair. Finally got rid of the blond and went back to my normal color!

Moxie was on hand for moral support. I think it turned out great!

A few days later, since we were under a burn ban, our annual Hood Camping trip was cancelled. So, we improvised with a Staycation!

First day? Local pool with water slides! Look at all the hoodlings......... growing up too fast!

Lil C having fun at the pool.....

On our way home, we stumble across this advertisement. Priceless. Seriously? A funeral home and a kiddie ice cream social in one. Who does that?

As we do, in our crew, a forking took place. This time, we let the hoodlets help! Doodle, PIA, and Miz Thang along with CHB, myself and Moxie. Bushwacker donated the sign to the cause.

What forking is complete without the inflatable turkey?

Too many other photos of our staycation to share, needless to say we had a great time! We did cosmic bowling, visited the root beer store, went to Dick's Burgers, Deception Pass and I celebrated my birthday!

I was sitting in the living room one night, the house was empty except for me. I was relaxing watching my tv with a glass of wine. I see a movement out of the corner of my left eye, and I look over to see this thing crawling across my floor.

I jump on the couch (duh) and flip the main overhead light switch. I see this GINORMOUS monstrosity high tailing it towards my tv cabinet.

I grab my shoe, hit it, just enough to kill it but not smoosh it in to my carpet. And of course took a photo immediately.

This thing is DIS.CUS.TING.

And yeah, I don't scream like a girl. I kill those spiders, and look damn good doing it!

Had a candle party at my house, and of course made jello shots for all the ladies. Total made? 36. Total consumed that night? 25

Sadly, another wine glass (and my favorite one to boot) has bitten the dust.

Last weekend before the kiddos go back to school? Super Saturday Breakfast! The only thing missing was the potatoes, and then it would have been my Grandpa P's version of a Super Sunday Special! Homemade waffles, bacon, coffee and for the kids, hot chocolate!

After a L-O-N-G day, Moxie and I sat down to a glass of wine, and the last 2 jello shots.

Because CHB is awesome sauce, she got all the hoodlings and the parental units tickets to a free baseball game for the Single A farm team close by our house.

Off we went, on a gorgeous Saturday night. Rare picture of Miz Thang, PIA and Doodle all smiling!

Here is how I do a baseball game!

Nice touch, fireworks after the game, even though the home team lost.

There you have it! August all wrapped up! It was a VERY busy but great month!

September 4, 2013

Yeah, I'm a little behind.........

You would think that with having a 4 day weekend I would have had time to blog.

Well, you thought wrong!

August in Review, and Labor Day weekend update will be here shortly.

Until then, I leave you with this:

HAPPY BACK TO SCHOOL DAY!

It's the most WONDERFUL time of the year!
