The new year is upon us and I have already had a few interesting experiences. In a lot of ways 2010 feels no different than 2009. However, this evening was one for the record books.

In the process of getting this report printed, there was some discussion about the topic amongst the adults. Here is where it gets interesting: I was called a bigot. W.O.W. I have never been called that before. Needless to say it was shocking and extremely hurtful. From a young age I have always thought I was fair to all race, religion and creed. I knew I certainly did not agree with all, or believe in the lifestyle, but I never felt like I discriminated against any one group.

Now I am being told I do discriminate. I honestly feel my opinion and my basis on this issue is shaped from MY life experience and not what someone ELSE tells me to be true. I can only speak to how I feel, and why I feel that way. No matter what the issue may be, I think that is all you can ask of any person. Healthy discussion is always encouraged and once in a while it may cause you to think outside yourself. I am all for that.

If anything at all positive came out of tonight I am hard pressed to find it. Maybe down the road some self reflection will commence but as of now, I still feel that I am allowed my opinion, and will own it until that reality changes. I know I can fly off the handle from time to time, but I honestly feel like I have come to a rational decision, as a woman, as a mother.

I know in time this will all blow over. I know I will forget this ever happened. But for now, it is not a feeling I am comfortable with and most certainly NOT a title I want to have behind my name.

WOW is right! I don't think there is anything about you that condones labeling you a bigot. I hope you were able to brush this off. SO. NOT. TRUE! Either that or I don't know you at all. ;o)
